VST Synth Recommendations Please

Can anyone recommend any free or cheap(ish) VSTs that provide some good core, traditional types of pads.?

You know the stuff, warms strings, soft brass etc.

Have a look at the freeware threads on the Reaper Forum there is tons of stuff like this.

Standalone and VSTi - plenty of nice stuff here to be messing with, albeit a little old school and dated, which can be a good thing. You need to search a bit in the library for useful sounds but they're in there!
