Recommend me an Amp!

  • @ICBM will give you better answers than me but:

    • Valve amps are always subjectively louder than the equivalently powered transistor amp
    • Given similar speaker efficiency, if you want double the spl you need 10x the o/p power so a 100W amp is twice as loud as a 10W amp.
"Working" software has only unobserved bugs. (Parroty Error: Pieces of Nine! Pieces of Nine!)
Seriously: If you value it, take/fetch it yourself

I've got a Zvex Nano amp and that's only about half a watt, the only time I get to crank it up is when my neighbours are out. Valve amps can get seriously louder than solid state, I think, because they distort later and more softly.

Of course one way around using loud valve amp at home is a good drive pedal.

I have to do that with my 5 watt Orange.

There are some bargains to be had buying used - I really would look around rather than buy new.  Its not so convenient but a lot cheaper.........

  • Those kind of threads are much easier to answer to when You'll state:

    -style of music You play
    -amp for home/recording/gigs
    -Your current guitar
    -budget

    Thanks, regards,
    Kris.
so can I not play Jazz on a Soldano? Can I not play metal through an AC30 with pedals?
Can I not use a 100w stack at home?
What if I want to go from a Les Paul to a strat, do I need 2 amps?
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

I've just mentioned this amp on another thread but it appears worth mentioning here too.

My next 5w tube amp purchase is gonna be this-

    http://juketone.co.uk/product/juketone-royal-blood-10-guitar-amplifier/

Really simple but has all the right characteristics, hand wired for a start, and i'm a sucker for a bit of tweed. Roll on next pay day.
