NAD: A Little Different

Sooooo I have a few amps anyway but decided I wanted something a little different.
The list was:
Loud enough for gigs without being complete overkill.
Head and 2x12 format.
Not huge amounts of gain, just enough crunch and very touch sensitive to playing styles.
Responsive to guitars - if I plug in a Junior, a Les Paul, a 339 and a Tele I want to be able to hear the guitar and differences between them.
Simple layout - clear, easy to dial in, not multiple toggles and graphic eqs.

I was aiming for John Mayer/Buddy Whittington territory so from that you'd probably think Dr Z, D/13, Two Rock et al.
However, I also wanted an effects loop, reverb and the ability to run various cabs at different impedances. All without paying a small fortune.

In the end I settled on this:

2 channels, clean and crunch (though I only plan on using the one) running:
2x5881s in the power section
7025 in V1, 12ax7s for V2, effects loop and reverb, 12at7 for phase inverter.
Sounds very sweet indeed.
Oh and it's got my name on it.

If you're prepared to take a gamble and support smaller UK builders you can get so much more tone for your money.

Same builder Matt.  The combo was a different circuit - Dumble'esque clean channel and Soldano overdrive, running a quad of 6v6s.

This is a cleaner, more harmonically rich beast with better clarity and smoother tone.
