    Thanks for the education,I'm a bit ignorant when it comes to electronics.
    Keep it coming. I'd quite like to try building a small champ type amp, need to get a better soldering iron first though.

    It wasn't quite as bad as it looks - it just needed a new socket, three resistors and the wiring loom repaired - but it was still quite time-consuming to clean up the mess, and test the output transformer (which could have been damaged but luckily wasn't) - but still unnecessary when all it should have been was one valve and one fuse.

    I expected better of a top-of-the-range custom signature amp from one of the world's most famous companies that costs over two grand...
