Terrible mess though, and we talk about modern electronics being difficult to repair! 

Not saying its impossible, but it wouldn't be much fun either.

Point to point just looks nasty. Turret board amps are generally really nice looking, although if I made one I'm sure I'd wind up with a birds nest of hell

The inside of your average point to point wired guitar amp is mostly fresh air!

When I had a look inside my old Bad Cat, the component count was so low I thought I'd bought one which hadn't been finished....

I do find it amazing that anyone thought that that was a reasonable way to build such a complex circuit.
