Always makes me sad that one, Dweezil can't play it live without crying. I was so sad when Frank died, Ive never felt like that about someone I don't know, he was an amazing man and who knows what he'd be doing now.
"Going Home" - Theme from Local Hero
"Brothers in Arms" Dire straits
Knopfler has a way to hit me right on the cry button
Build by the housemartins often gives me a lump in the throat for some reason
I can hold it together for the guitar intro and all the thunder etc
As soon as he says "these mist covered mountains........" I lose it
It's just superb - his lyrics, his playing, the band - spot on.
The song which really got to me watching it was 'Tunnel of Love' - an exceptionally poignant look back at youth.
I've said it before - but for me Knopfler is up there with the truly great writers. His songs have a real sense of 'place' in them. It's hard to argue someone who has sold so many records is under-rated but I actually believe it's true in his case.
An exceptional talent.
A classic in my eyes because he'd just got divorced after his wife had an affair and he was well into his drug dependancy - just starting to go down hill personally and this song summed him up at that time.
Northern sky - Nick Drake.
I won't say I start grizzling but very emotive tracks for me.
