A localish shop had a very flexible policy that sticks in my mind. 

They had a guitar that I loved the look of but couldn't afford. Years later I went back and it was still there and I could afford it. Great! It had a few dings, pick circles etc etc from shop wear but that's not uncommon or something that bothers me and I got a decent enough discount for it especially for a new (in this case unsold) guitar. 

So a few days later I spoke with the lovely builder who was over joyed that the police had returned the stolen guitar that had been missing for a few years.
