well, since you're asking,I'll tell you what gave me the idea......I was listening to Steven Wilsons version of SIGN O' THE TIMES by Prince and there is a terrific drop tuning chorus in there.....I thought, wait a mo,maybe I could like SOME of this stuff......

Mastodon are my favourites for this. Riffs for days, but also some really powerful songwriting - awesome melodies, and some great singing (in the studio anyway, their voices can be a bit ropey live). And Brent Hinds is a cracking lead player too.

This one from the latest album is heavy as fuck.

This is also from the latest album, it's just killer. Belting chorus.

This one's much more chilled out but does have a heavy bit at around 2:10, and a stunning solo at 2:50, probably Brent's best.
