I'm struggling to find bands I haven't listened to on here.

Hmmmnn ...... I don't think they have all the bands in the right sections.

Gentle Giant and Oceansize should probably be swapped.

I have EllPees by bands from all departments, but there are also some in each department I have not listened to (or in some case heard of). I fail to understand why progressive rock is considered nerdy or geeky by those of the punk, pop or other persuasions, unless it's just the classic symptom of plebs pooh-pooing anything they don't understand.

Indeed, the categorisation all seems completely random.  But ignoring that, lots of good bands listed there.

I think it's an Italian word meaning irredeemable or beyond help.

I was safely in 'Creep' until I saw Spock's Beard.  Dammit. :))

Whatever it means, it seems simply liking Caravan is enough to turn me from just being a bit weird into the Elephant Man!
    :(

Some of those bands are pretty popular within the metal community, karnivool and oceansize for example. There's some there that aren't really prog like anathema

Hmmm… how much of each do you have to own to qualify for each category?

I have music by Pink Floyd, ELP, Yes, Genesis, Jethro Tull (in fact I have most of the back catalogues of Floyd and Genesis, and quite a lot of the others), a couple of Camel albums and a track (just one!) by The Nice. So perhaps on average I am only weird, which is slightly disappointing.

I did once have a Rush album too.

A quick scan and I have albums from 20 of those bands. I guess I like Prog

I am now confirmed "weird".  I have delved into artists from all of the other categories though, and even approved of some of them, Rush being the main one.

Only Tull - and on the Crest Of A Knave tour, which was their "metal" album :). Does that excuse me?

It was a showoff, ageist question that allows me to boast about being around in the late 60s. As a consequence I saw a lot of these in their formative years. King Crimson, van der Graaf, and Caravan at Friars Aylesbury. Yes when I was working in Paris. Gentle Giant somewhere. Genesis at our school "dance". Emerson, Lake and Palmer, at different times in separate bands, but never as ELP

Six. Zappa, Rush, Queensryche (saw them supporting ?someone? years ago), Yes, Tull, Caravan. Missed King Crimson the last time they played in the UK and the upcoming tour is just too pricey for me. I've seen Fripp soundscaping live, though - so 6½ then?
