Blimey. Who's that playing bass and are they old enough to be out late?

Ahh, the wonderful Tal. Left Australia for GIT in LA to study guitar at 16 and then to NY at 18 playing with Herbie Hancock! Was apparently told by fellow students she thought like a bass player and switched. Quite a rare talent for such tender years it has to be said.

Is this the interview and he plays through a Vox? If it is it is on the Sky catch up anyway, that whole series is. They also have the Ronnie Scott's gig on there. Nice. :)>-

As Eric says the Ronnie Scott gig program is excellent, Tal is on bass on that one too. She does an amazing solo that has JB grinning like an idiot.
Last time I saw JB he had a different bassist, a black woman who looks a bit like Grace Jones. She was good but had nowhere near the enthusiasm of Tal.

I caught 30 mins of it. My summary would be: 30 mins of the best playing I would never listen to.

I know what you mean. I've got CDs of guitarists that I admire for their skills, but couldn't listen to more than once a year, Guthrie and Satch included. I wouldn't count Beck amongst those though, his material is always melodic and he makes the technique fit the song, rather than vice versa.

I only listened to about 30 mins, guitar was as expected, brilliant, refreshing to see 1 someone young and 2 a woman playing. Drummer was too much for me, got a bit annoying and too loud drowning the bass out.

Beck comes into that "only listenable in small doses" category for me, I don't like that constant twiddling with the whammy bar which has become has signature style in recent years.

I saw him live a few years ago, I was amazed for 20 minutes... then bored stupid for the rest of the show.

Beck and Tal were great, but that horrible 70s lounge-keyboard plinky stuff was awful, and the drumming was way too busy.
