Mr Brightside - what is so difficult about it?

    @nickp

    Yeah you can shift things about but it's not just the notes you play but the voicing ...... every lick on Brightside use's the trick of an open E string sounding just before a freted E ...... and to achieve that you have to use some strange shapes, otherwise you would need to hit the open E string twice which is technically the right notes but not the right voicing if that makes sense ...

    So for the bastard G section arp of the bridge you need a G root note, a G octave, a D note and an open E and a fretted E of the same octave ..... getting all that into a ring'able arp means some serious stretching :)

    Aye, @Danny1969 has it down. My only cheat in that song is skipping the low G in that bastard arp and just doubling up the high one. Stretching from 3rd fret G to that 7th fret D cleanly is a big one to get my sausage fingers round in a hurry!

    Hmm, I've never played those open D strings at the end of the bars!

    Do you know if it's freely available anywhere? Or is it purchase only?

    I've got the transcription as well - which suggests the pre-chorus played lower - and the intro etc per @bingfeller post

    you can buy it from the music notes website for sure - make sure you get the full one

    I recon I've got it somewhere to hand :)

    I tried it with that open d last night and I have to admit I'm not convinced. Keeping my finger on the 16th fret sounded right.

    I agree that it sounds better with the 16th but it is handy for me to play an open D on the last arp to aid the transition to the pre-chorus

    That's because they're not there on the original and the Hal Leonard transcription is wrong in that respect.  But it's kinda what I do sometimes as a cheat on that transcription I posted up either on this post or another brightside post :)
