Yes and no.  Fiddly in the extreme but I got it done.

WELL worth it from a performance point of view, but a bit of a hassle.  I should point out that this was a Mac Mini Server so may not be as bad on other models.

It depends what generation it is as to how hard it is.

Performance wise it should make a big difference.

Ditto, plus OSX 10 means no voodoo commands needed.
Imagine something sharp and witty here ......

    What is a SSD ?
    Solid State Disk

Not because it has no valves in it, but because the memory is semiconductor, not a spinning disc with rust on it. However it behaves like a disk as far as the filestore is concerned.
"Working" software has only unobserved bugs. (Parroty Error: Pieces of Nine! Pieces of Nine!)
Seriously: If you value it, take/fetch it yourself

Yep, done it with a couple, but they were the previous generation ones (ie, not in the all ali case). Used Intel drives. Still got a rev1 Intel mac mini running on an Intel SSD I fitted at the time.

Big performance boost. But it's a royal pain in the arse to do. I've done it a few times so it's not a big issue, but it can be a little daunting if you've not taken one apart before.

Cool....thanks, mine is a Mac mini, late 2012.

    2.3G, i7 16G ram, 1Tb drive.

SSD would be a cool addition I think for recording.

2012 Mac mini should have an additional slot but you will have to buy another Internal USB cable if you want to retain the 1TB drive. If you do, then back it up install the SSD can create a fusion drive. Loads of web sites tell you how to do it.

Yeah with the old white Mac Mini. It was a doddle. I followed a Youtube tutorial. Took me 20 minutes thereabouts.

I think they're quite different yeah. But I was told by a workmate that the silver ones are easier to work with - he's got one on his desk and he put an SSD in it too. We all have SSD's at the office because they're so dayum awesome!

The old white ones were a doddle but as Apple hates you touching their kit they try and make it a bit harder when they release new versions
