Anyone know about disconnecting a battery from a mk4 Mondeo?

What's Hot

Need to hard reset my Stereo in my mk4 mondeo (with Sony DAB) as the phone function has magically disappeared/stopped working, and this fixes it, apparently.

Is there a simple way to disconnect and reconnect the battery without buggering anything else up?

Cheers!

The radio might need to be re-coded, usually a 4-digit code, but other than that you should be good*.

Make sure you have the radio code before disconnecting.

*disclaimer, I can't think of the top of my head anything else.

After you disconnect the battery  you usually will need the 4 digit code to get the radio working again.  If you don't have it you may have to pay to get it (you can usually buy the codes on eBay).  Just check before  you do it....

Can't you just pull the fuse for the radio and reinsert it?

There is a free program on the internet somewhere that gives you ford radio codes from the serial number

Sound like a smart way to go as it won't affect anything else (it will still require the PIN number though)

This sounds wonderful - how does one achieve this?

Also, I have the radio code, so no problem there (well, I have a card with the 4 digit code on which came with the car, so I assume it works!)

I can't imagine it involves much more than finding the fuse that's in the power circuit for the radio, removing the fuse, and then putting the fuse back in. There may be a need to keep the fuse out for a while in case the radio has a way to retain its settings during short losses of power. If it has, the owner's manual should mention it.

Don't do it unless you have the radio code. I did, and Ford wanted £25 (I think) to reprogramme it. I found the code in the end, though.

Try holding down 6 and press 1 after scrolling through screens the radio should display it's serial number.  Try the generator to see if you can get the code before you pull it.

    Or try here.

I got the code for the radio for a couple of my Transits from the generator programme.

Didn't make any difference though, I still couldn't hear it over the noise of the 2.5Di engine.

Therein lies the problem - I have located the fuse box under the glovebox - but there is ZERO indication as to which fuse is which (I know it's 'F6' that I need), and there's NOT ONE diagram of the central fuse box layout anywhere on the internets. (though there's plenty of the engine fuse compartment and the rear fuse compartment!)

Why not just disconnect the earth terminal

Do what you have to do and then reset
