Axe FX Ultra or Standard? Need help to make a quick decision.

What's Hot
OK, boring thread alert!

Anyway, I've been offered one of each of these units but I can't decide which to go for.

The Ultra is £100 more than the standard, plus a 4.5 hour drive.
The Standard is a 3 hour drive.

I understand they are similar units, but the Ultra has more memory/power - something like that.

What would you do?

Ultra because you can get more effects and more complex routings. I was always pushing the limit of my Ultra, and I don't think my routings are particularly complex. Is a foot pedal included? If not then pick up an FCB1010, which will cost you about £100

Out of that scenario I'd go the Ultra but honestly the Axe II is the way to go.

  • Thanks chaps.
Still not decided. Leaning towards Standard as it's cheaper and closer.
I'll be using it for recording, and don't use LOADS of FX.
I can't imagine the lower power of the Standard is that big a deal, certainly not for someone like me. The Axe wouldn't have got it's reputation if it was a crap unit.

The beauty of the AxeFX is in it's routing flexibility as much as the effects and amp simulation. If it's purely recording, where you don't need complex effects switching, then you should be ok with the Standard. You can also get by without a foot pedal.
