I think the GAS kill has happened!

Today I went and tried a load of combos out, marshallls, oranges, mesas, I even left my prejudices at home and tried a blackstar!

Seems like there isn't a modern 112 combo that gets close to my 90s peavey ultra. I came away thinking "I actually don't need a new amp".

I think I will always have lusty thoughts when I see those huge expensive boutique rigs but i think Im now sorted for amps. Guitars and pedals on the other hand........

Yep, same has happened me for guitars and amps lately. I've 3 lovely amps and 3 lovely guitars, and I feel I've all my bases covered. I was in a guitar shop today listening to a 68 Custom Deluxe Reverb, and while it was nice enough it just didn't hit the spot like my current amps do.

I've made a conscious decision not to be a pedal geek as I could see large amounts of money disappearing there..

It's bloody horrible when you end up in a no-gas scenario isn't it? Just what to do with all that spare time...

I've had similar moments recently but still enjoy the thrill of new gear. Sadly, I've too little cash to keep everything so the rotation is likely to continue until I win the lottery. Guitar-wise, that is. I think, like you, I'm in a happy place with amps - Egnater Rebel 30 Mkii head with two cabinets for gigs and a Blackstar HT1R head for home.

I'm not gas'ing at the moment and I find it a strange feeling. In fact, I've used distant selling regs a bit more recently, where I've bought something cause I've had an itch and then I realise what I've got tops it.

Maybe you're suffering depression, life can feel as if it's become meaningless with overwhelming feelings of despair and hopelessness.

@imalrightjack what's the difference with the rebel 30 mki and mkii?

I'm there with pedals and amps at the mo. 5W Lionheart is fantastic, and my new pedalboard is lovely. If I need a gigging amp again I'll be picking up a 20W Lionheart or Bad Cat Cub III 15R (depending on finances!) without a second thought.

    Guitars though...

I think it's the year out from gigging that's really helped, it's helped me focus on playing and writing and refining what I need, rather than what the band needs

  • It's a great amp. I'm really happy with it. But I got the Blackstar for home as it's way too much for home use.

  • for me ive concluded I need to play more not worry about gear, what ive got sounds good enough, laney vc20 and cub12r and even my peavey bandit sounds good enough to gig. I think some guitarists are worried about impressing other gearheads rather than the listening public who don't give a shit what yr using, just the sound....whose brave enough to admit it?
