Some people might remember my failure with a heat gun a few months ago. Well my new palm sander arrived yesterday and after a few hours this afternoon I've gone from this

I think it's a pretty nice body for a Squier tele. Still have part of the sides to do but with a bit of luck should be finished sanding tomorrow. So do I

A - leave it natural and go for a tru oil finish
B - Wudtone dairy blonde
C - @Andyjr1515 's patented calligraphy ink and ronseal technique probably purple.

So what do you all think? I genuinely can't decide.

That wood grain screams out for an oil finish, but the join in blocks behind the bridge (level with the B string) might be better with staining first.

That's nice wood. It would look great in Tru Oil finish.

    Well that's a better palm-sander than mine, @Adam_MD ; :)

I reckon mine would have taken days to get to the same finish, not hours!

My vote's for your purple....but of course it would be :))

Whatever you choose to do, I'm sure it will be splendid...

@Andyjr1515 £18 from Amazon with a load of different grades of paper. I was going to try a laminate top on this using the guide in one of your threads but I think it looks pretty good as is. Mrs_MD voted purple as well ;)

Mrs_MD clearly has very good taste. @Adam_MD  :))

I think you're right about skipping the veneer...the grain on that body is really nice

I'd do it white blonde but a very very thin coat, grains lovely on that. I'm not a fan of the stained finishes.

    Small update

Body has been fully sanded to 320 grit and I've ordered some Ruby, Dark Orchid and Purple ink to hopefully start staining next weekend.

In the meantime here's some end of the day sun pics of the body wiped down with naphtha

I still stand by my original post. You have a cheap body (not you, the wood), get all 'funky' on it. Do ZAPP. Whatever ZAPP is.

I think you should go for some form of fluorescent transparent pink that will allow you to see the wood grain though it.  A colour that not only do Fender not do, but one that you would never expect to see a Tele in at all.

For a man who doesn't like gay knobs, you're choice of Pink is quite surprising but welcomed none the less.

So my inks turned up yesterday and I think we have a winner im going to put the first coat of Majestic Purple on tomorrow. It was a close call between that and the Oxblood.

I'm secure enough with my masculinity to not only suggest a pink finish for a guitar, but I would be happy to play a pink sparkly one as well, as for knobs though, now we're getting into serious territory, I'm very very particular when it comes to the knobs on guitars, knobs can make or break guitars in my books, they not only have to be of good quality, but they also have to 'fit' and 'match' the guitar, the style of the guitar and finish of the guitar they are on.

Well coat one is on going to sand back soon and stain again. Had a bit of a problem with the string ferrules and didn't get through the sealer layer 'doh. Going to have to sand that section again.

Well I've moved on from staining to the wipe on finish. I'm hoping to be finished and ready to let it cure before I go back to work on Tuesday. Here's a teaser for how it's looking now this is after 3 thinned coats of ronseal. I'm loving the colour
