......make a noob leccie player sound better than he really is (not a reverb type cos hopefully any amp I buy will have reverb with it).

distortion and overdrive can mask sloppiness but I would advise you work on that via a clean amp.
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

I'd say a wah wah pedal. You don't have to play any notes, just hold your hand over the fretboard and rock your foot back and forth and it'll sound great.

Delay - the edge has relied on this to hide his lack of ability over the years. ;)

We went to see him in Belfast on Halloween a few years ago dressed as ghostbusters and ended up bumping into him in a bar later. Me and my mate finished the night drinking whiskey with Bill and Huey Morgan in the Europa hotel. One of the best nights out I've ever had.

I think to begin with you should get to know your amp and fiddle with it till you get a sound you like and enjoy playing. Once you've got the amp working for you and not against you then you can experiment with different pedals.
Sorry if this comes across as patronising but it worked for me.
