Here's a few clips of Irish guitarist Mal O'Brien recorded last week in Dublin. Two of Mal's own tunes off his fine album Ocean Drive & a stonking version of 'Worried Life Blues'

Another great track from Mal's album 'Ocean Drive' recorded live in the studio with no overdubs - I've seen this band in action live and they are something else - hope some of you enjoy - btw the audio doesn't kick in until around 0:35 in case you think your computer's broked ;)

He's obviously very, very good. My only criticism is that just watching the black and white clip and it does sound a bit like a guitar instructional video, I'm half expecting accompanying notes on the modes he used. To my ears it needs more composing and less a demonstration of guitar techniques. But, again, he's a stonkingly good guitarist.

Cheers Eric - the studio thing does look like the guys were very focussed on getting a good 'take' I guess - it is to promote a purely guitar based instrumental album though - what did you think of the live videos?

Mal is a fantastic player & the sounds he gets live from that DC30 are exquisite imho..

I did have to 'get beyond' the Jazz flute on the live clips! But clearly an amazing guitarist. For my ears he needs to pace himself a bit more, have a bit more space in the bluesy stuff, but that's nit picking to have something to say. He'd be great to see live no doubt.
