Has this been done?

To my ears it's very similar, I wouldn't have thought it's done intentionally though....

If Axl/Slash and co. ever sat down and listened to that track and then wrote Sweet Child on the back of it I'll eat my hat.

I agree, very similar though. Interesting on the back of the Blurred Lines lawsuit the other month though...Jimmy Page and Plant will be looking over their shoulders if this one gets anywhere in the courts!

Meh, a bunch of unsuccessful's trying to cash in on someone else.

    Common chord progression, common rhythm.

It is similar but I don't think Slash and Axl would have heard of this band.

Why wait until now? Sounds similar but I doubt this is a rip off.

Money troubles? The recent win by the Blurred Lines lawsuit? I hope this isn't going to be the start of something, how many chord progressions are there that sound pleasing to a European ear/scale? I've virtually no theory knowledge but I know there's only a certain amount of combinations that work....

Isn't the main riff of SCOM essentially a warm up pattern slash used at the time that became a song he hated?

Seems quite a common theme with Slash, Anastasia is another born out of a pattern used to warm up.

That's what he's always said....still he probably nicked that from an obscure Australian B-side as well ;-)

The opening lick is pretty similar to a Witchfynde song from their 75 demo.

The intro riffs not at issue here I don't think.

The riff for SCOM is an old pentatonic exercise from Guitar for the Practising Musician, I don't think Slash has an original bone in his body tbh

Just to make it clear it isn't Slash's hat that I'll eat.

The opening bars brought summer of 69 to my mind.

Yes the verse sounds similar and the little lead line is there too, but we are talking about a pretty bog standard chord progression underpinning it all.

Also the bridge between verse and chorus is an integral part of the G&R song and not here.

    It's close but no cigar.

Why now? And in any case, a lot of songs sound similar to one another.  I bet if you look back to the 70s, there'll be a song out there that sounds like Unpublished Critics.

  • IIRC Sweet Child was always considered album filler by the label and most of the band...It wasn't released as a single until 11 MONTHS after the album was out.
