As some of you will probably have noticed I do love me Westones! and the Thunders are a fun and easy refinish, so here's one I picked up with lots of interesting ash grain patterning, plus some very deep finger/plectrum wear, an ideal candidate for some fun'n'colouring
Cue the palm sander....
I mixed some black dye with the natural grainfiller, forgot to take pics but you all know the score, right?
then the Emerald green stain
while these dried overnight I levelled/recrowned the frets.
Busy grain.
A few oil coats in..
Waterslide paper I printed off last year
and on she goes! I cut the paper big and trimmed to the edge of the headstock so I've only the bottom edge to deal with
Tru-Oil on maple neck makes for such a wonderful finish, smooth as you like.
And there we have it, a semi sheen finish with only a tiny hint of grain texturing, changed the stock black MMK45 pickups for a cream set, I wasn't sure on the colour at first, but it's growing on me
