While we wait for the next Test, have a look at this:

    Just rang Keaton Jennings;

Apparently he's just popped out but I've been asked to hold on as he'll be back shortly

If Hameed doesn't recover his form, who would you bring in?  Stoneman?

    It's such a tough one.

Stoneman is 30 and has a very average record.
Hales has no idea where his offstump is and leaves poorly

Hales however is proven against international bowling.

James Hildreth should've been looked at when Strauss retired.

Hildreth has never opened for Somerset though.

Stoneman's stats have suffered from playing a lot of cricket in very bowler friendly conditions at Durham.

Now we're writing him off, Jennings will probably get 150 today.

Point taken re Durham, but from personal experience that wicket is a road when no overhead cloud.

Jennings has time on the ball, huge asset. He needs to commit to front or back foot as he does tend to play in 'two man's land' at times, evidenced by getting out caught in the 3rd/4th slip area - a sure sign of propping forward when you maybe should be back.

@crunchman I rest my case re Jennings and playing half-way forward.

Bring Strauss out of retirement.  He couldn't do much worse, and at least it would stop all the other damage he's been doing.  I just checked the Lancashire fixtures to see when Hameed will next get to play a first class game, and they don't have a County Championship fixture until 28th August.

    West Indies team ???!!!****????

The greatest fast bowling team in history, and they have 2 spinners and Jason Holder in their bowling attack (at Headingley).  For all their batting woes in the last test, this shows the depth of their decline more than anything.

Wear down Roach and Gabriel and then Stokes, Bairstow, Moeen and Woakes can feast off of the others.

You really may as well play Roland-Jones at 9, move everyone up one and get rid of the deadwood like Stoneman and co.

We seem to be reaping the rewards of concentrating on the one-day game when it comes to our batting.

Malan is just a waste of a space when you are putting someone as good as Woakes down at 9.

Personally, I'd go for a second spinner rather than a fifth quick bowler though.

Agreed, depending on conditions- have the option.

Eng v Windies 2nd Test day 3: England nearly 100 behind with 3 more wickets needed. Proper slow dull test conditions, no spark in the England bowling attack. Dull as.

I'm hoping that by posting that the game springs into life and Broady gets a hat trick!

Looking forward to an interesting last day. Bit of cloud overhead, Anderson in line for his 500th wicket.

Quite a turn-round from the previous post.

    It's squeaky bum time.

And, why does it look like Anderson is wearing a training bra?

One of the greatest test match victories in cricket for a very long time.   Great credit to the Windies, Shai Hope & Brathwaite in particular for some proper test batting.
