I think he's playing his ebony Les Paul which he finally sold a few years ago.

Image is from page 5 of the booklet accompanying the box set.

Aparently Peter Green also owned an ebony LP.

I don't think it was anything special as he sold it to a collector in the UK over 10 years ago .. it wasn't the sort of telephone number style money original 1959 Les Paul's would fetch.

Windsor Jazz Festival 1967 according to the photo credit in Bob's "Fleetwood Mac" story. Gotta be a 50's guitar then. Only gold and sunburst commonly available at that time. It's either a refin or incredibly rare (BOTB p 161 has an example of an all ebony 58).

There are a few photos from that gig and the guitar looks black on all of them. I'd been thinking it could just have been duff photography.

Edit: It's Fablon.. I knew I'd seen this before somewhere!!

  • The accepted wisdom from the Les Paul fora appears to suggest that this was his Burst covered in "Fablon"  - because Peter thought that Bursts were getting a little common!! Who's able to separate the myth from the fact with this most enigmatic man. Here's another shot that shows how "flat" the finish seems to be....
