Never occurred to me before but now I think on it, thumb. Probably wrong and why I play like a twat. Actually now I think on it more, I'm not sure.

Neither. It's wrist action, modified by thumb & forefinger to angle the pick correctly.
"Working" software has only unobserved bugs. (Parroty Error: Pieces of Nine! Pieces of Nine!)
Seriously: If you value it, take/fetch it yourself

    Depends on the technique.
Circle picking is a different motion to alternate or sweeping.
It all comes from the wrist anyway.

thumb planted in the middle of the pick

on the other side, the 1st finger toward the front, 2nd finger toward the rear.. this prevents the pick from rotating and also allows me to stick out the 1st finger to play harmonics where the pitch matters [like octaves]..

no finger 'leads' because they are all completely stationary all the time.. the picking comes from the wrist and elbow

play every note as if it were your first
