Thoughts on pedal power amps and other alternatives?

The Marshall 8008s are about £100 but they are rack mounted and, I think, need to be run in stereo

I'm sure you can run an 8008 in mono..

just run 1 channel.. it's 80W each side..

and they're pretty loud too

I had an old 8008, gold panel. I didn't care for it much, I felt it could have benefitted from a presence and resonance control! It felt bright, thin and lacking in punch.

No i'm getting silly ideas in my head of replacing my main rig with a rack one... oh dear

I have heard those Harley and Rocktron ones aren't that great. 

You might be better off with a SH Valvestate job.

I was actually looking at one of those as I think they sound pretty good, but then I started to realise I was forgetting the whole point of it being a backup rig as it was getting expensive and very high quality! I'd love to hear a demo of the two together... do you have any band videos?
