    The outro of Layla.

    Totally superfluous.

It only became useful in the closing sequence of Goodfellas

The silly clowny joyful bit in iron maiden's The Drifter at 1:56. Spoils what otherwise would be my favourite Iron Maiden song of all.

Roland said: Scales are primarily a tool for categorising knowledge, not a rule for what can or cannot be played.
Supportact said: [my style is] probably more an accumulation of limitations and bad habits than a 'style'.

Well said, Mr @Gassage.  That why I like it.  Martin Scorsese gave a reason for that part to exist.

Backstreet Luv by Curved Air. It's dark and moody till it gets to a chorus-ish bit then it goes all light and fluffy.

Fleetwood Mac's Oh Well - the 3½ hours of orchestral stuff in part II.

That's the best bit. Spaghetti Western music with Peter Green on guitar? I'm in.

Nobody has mentioned the utter utter shite that is the "drum break" in Sting's "Englishman in N.Y". Utter shite in case I didn't make myself clear.... It's like he tripped over the trigger for his drum machine or something.....

The "guitar solo" in Fireball is probably the only Ritchie Blackmore solo I don't like.
What Ritchie Blackmore solo?  There's not one.

There's a Roger Glover bass solo and a Jon Lord organ solo, but Ritchie…
I always thought the first bit was Blackmore (low strings, with trem), then Glover (where the power chords start and the sound becomes fuzzier), then Lord - but you may be right, bass played high up with extreme string bending would sound like that too.
I thought it was Ritchie mucking about with his tuners

EDIT but the video convinces me otherwise

dreadful guitar solo but an imaginative use of bass :)

The guitar break in Presence of the Lord (Blind Faith) is one I've never been sure about. Out of keeping with the rest of the song but kind of works.
I play guitar because I enjoy it rather than because I’m any good at it

The chorus bit of Locomotive by GnR where the timing goes all weird, it totally ruins what is otherwise an awesome track. The short guitar break from about 2:56 is brilliant too.

I have to disagree with @Bellycaster about The Prophet's Song.... you can see Freddie's decided to have go at playing with delays a-la Brian and I think it works.  I also have to disagree with @Randomhandclaps about He-Man Woman Hater - I love the beginning !

    If you want good-song-turning-to-shit, look no further than Ram Jam's 'Black Betty'.... where a great rock number turns into the fucking Benny Hill Show at 02:00 ;

That's the best bit of a pretty dull song. That riff where Eric comes in with the wah is great!

See that's probably one of my favourite GnR songs, I love the chugging main riff so much, same reason I love the song Anastasia.

@underdog it's one of my favourites too, that's why I'm so disappointed that they ruined it with the shitty chorus.

I don't understand what you're saying about the Nuno song. Did Dweezil play on it? I hear nothing out of time?

They're not really a band I'm that into but the extended outro to Paradise City by GNR really gets on my tits.

Fair enough, do it live, that would be a lot of fun - but on the record it just makes the song too long.

The Clanger nookie section in Whole Lotta Love.

...can be fully redeemed if you shout "CHOO!" just before the guitar solo.

There's a middle section in When The Levee Breaks by Led Zep that just has no place in the song. It's actually my favourite Page riff (next to Kashmir), but it changes from a something so menacing to a weird bright and spangly chorus guitar. Such a shame.

Led Zep had a lot of crap bits in songs...

Yeah, but more great bits than 99% of every other band ever ;)

And the bridge of When The Levee Breaks is fantastic. Its a release of all that menace, an exultant shout, and then back to the menace!
