Effect enclosures - tips for stencilling?

Can't be arsed with all that inkjet waterslide labelling jazz. I'm making pedals for my own use and would much rather just stencil some simple designs on them to make them look cool, then label controls with a marker pen, only I've had mixed results up to now.

What do you make your stencils from? How do you get good sharp edges? Do you use something to stick the stencil down to prevent paint bleeding? If so, what?

Don't talk politics and don't throw stones. Your royal highnesses.

What about Letraset for the labels, then lacquer over it

MrDecalPaper does a rub on transfer paper I think, much the same as letraset but printable.
Ive not seen the process in video, but I can't imagine it being too complicated.

I've used wide masking tape to cut stencils out of, you get a nice sharp edge when you peel it off.
