Spotify - "Discover Weekly" is briliant!

Here's a heads up:

I've no idea how long Spotify have been doing their "Discover Weekly" thing but if you've not used it it's well worth a listen. 

I tend to ignore any bollox that companies try and thrust upon me so when I first saw the Discover Weekly folder plonked amongst my music I just ignored it, or tbh I moved it right out of the way.  I kinda assumed it would be full of crap. 

But.... I eventually had a  listen and there's clearly some clever algorithm going on because it was full of just the sort of dark, melodic, chilled and downtempo sounds which I love.  Each week the folder fills up with 30 new songs deleting the previous 30 so you gotta save any you like to other folders.  I've been saving about 25 out of 30.  So a great algorithm with good choices so far.

I use my Spotify account for in between function band sets at wedding gigs, and the kids and the missus use it as much as I do. God only knows algorithmically derived what horrors would await me in there!

Thanks for this. I've just been listening to mine and a good 50% of it is great.

I use spotify all the time, trouble is so does my daughter and Mrs, so I get some horrendous stuff reccomended at times. Use it between sets at gigs as well!

I can think of one thing, money.  If that's what's behind it then Spotify's a bigger money grabber than I thought.

I've never noticed it before but I've just looked in mine and it has lots of doom/stoner metal and blues rock which I might well like. Does the list disappear every week?

Yes, a new 30 songs each Monday which will replace the previous 30.  Save anything you like in the week to another folder.

Just checked mine out, 80% of the stuff is tunes I recognise, but the other 20% seems decent. just added a track 12 feet deep by the front bottoms to my playlist. cheers!
