A guitar to match the amp?

I don't mean asthetically but sonically.

The more amps and guitars I have owned the more I think you chose your amp and then pick a guitar that suits that amp. Essentially making it all one instrument.

Of course any guitar can work well through any amps but have any of you found that certain amps you have just bring out the best in your Tele or LP for example.

My current set up is really inspiring me to play just amp and guitar with not much in the way of effects. My MJW and Tele seem to be matched perfectly and any drive pedals seem to get in the way rather than enhance the sound. Conversely when I play my Sheraton through the amp I find I prefer using it with my drive pedals.

  • Fender into fender I always find too bright.

The only exception is the 68 Princeton which is much more even sounding :)

    * Vintage Strat into classic Fender amps has a magic like no other.
    * Les Paul into classic Marshall is where it all started for all of us
    * Tele into anything that has a pulse seems to work regardless!
