Yamaha guitars with replaceable faceplates/graphics?

I remember sometime in the late 80s, early 90s Yamaha marketed a couple of Strat style guitars which were finished in black, but had a large perspex scratchplate that allowed interchangeable graphics to be used on the front of the guitar. You could buy graphics, or make your own from a template.

Does anyone else remember these, and if so, what the range was called? I thought they were called "Art Guitars" but Google doesn't show anything for that...

Wow, blast from the past! The RGX121FP. I remember a guy at school having one with skulls and death and stuff all over it.

I remember those - can't remember what the hell they were called though!

Pretty sure they were part of the RGX series, but my brain may be remembering wrong.

I remember them doing a competition where they gave you a cardboard template and then you do your own artwork and send it to them.

Oh yes, I certainly remember the adverts in the US guitar mags I bought back then (Guitar World, Guitar FTPM).

I was thinking about these very recently! I had one as a teenager with the Paul Weller 'Wham!' Graphics.

Thanks folks, those were exactly what I remembered. Don't think I've seen them showing up very often 2nd hand though. Currently debating making one for myself...
