Normalizing MIDI Volumes / Velocities

I've recently started working with EzDrummer 2 and some MIDI loop libraries from various providers. One issue I am encountering is around the loudness of loops. I'm pretty new to this sort of thing so I don't know if it is necessarily a volume thing or whether the velocity of the hits is different but importing the loops in EZDrummer doesn't shed any light on it.

There is sometimes a marked difference between a loop I have created, a loop from the EZDrummer library and one from another third party.

Is there any way of normalizing my MIDI library so that they all match? I use Sonar X3.

  • it's likely the velocity. I'm not familiar with Sonar, but in the midi editor you should easily be able to highlight some/all of the midi notes and increase the velocity. i tend to have most if my drum hits around 105-110 (then randomized a bit), then you have a bit of room above that for harder hits.
