At least we are not in Germany ... an image of Angela Merkel wearing a chador in front of minarets rising from the Bundestag produced by public TV broadcaster ARD, Germany's equivalent of the BBC, for a news report on immigration. Apparently the debate on immigration has turned nasty and it's interesting to note that some commentators said the German press is aping the British press .. the likes of the Sun and the Daily Mail obviously have an international reputation.

I always look at the newspaper circulation figures before I comment. And it appears the Daily Mail puts the Grundian in the shade, and then some. So, by that measure I reckon that, as a Telegraph reader (also well down the pecking order), my views and that of the Grundian readers, are in the minority.

As to who is 'right' and who is 'wrong', well I reckon the majority is going to rule, whether I like it or not. Ranting about the Daily Mail makes no sense to me, whatsoever. Apart from letting off steam, it's a pointless exercise.

...Indeed, as does ranting about the Guardian (which is the subject of this thread).  However as far as circulation figures go, The Sun puts them both in the shade, and by that logic, extrapolated to the UK population, most people are morons.  Which, I think is a perfectly reasonable assumption.  Statistically it's a valid point, and I do believe that the UK is made up of 70-80% fuckwit.  Actually, not just the UK - all countries - except Scandinavia and Germany, where I think the twatbadger quotient is lower.

You've missed the point. The point being that you have automatically assumed you are in the right, and that all Sun readers are morons when in fact they probably think that you're a moron, too. And as there are more of them, then statistically, they're right.

Also, morons are still morons wherever they may be, and the alternative use of the word 'twatbadger' to describe non-UK resident morons could well be construed as discriminatory.

    EDIT:

    ;)

I really love how lefty are so condescending about the actual working class people they believe they are sticking up for. People who don't believe in their solutions to what are evidently social problems are either stupid or evil seems to be the mindset, as amply demonstrated by the double figure IQ morons gobbing on Conservative party delegates in Brighton. The Guardian's editorial staff is so out of touch with most of the UK, it's fears and aspirations it makes David Cameron look like a man of the people ffs.

I'm sorry but no, nothing could ever, no matter what, in any universe, make Dave look like a man of the people.

The more physical demonstrations do nobody on the left any favours whatsoever. They simply don't learn that it achieves nothing other than scorn. The notion of the 'shy Tory' is one based in reality but increasingly the 'shy liberal' exists as well, one who doesn't endorse smashing things up or graffiti on war memorials.

Those scenes remind me of Thatcher Vs Scargil. Starting direct action against a newly elected government is strategically inept. The general public don't like hate filled eyes and people gobbing on delegates, journalists and others. You don't see Tories stood outside the TUC screaming "Socialist Scum" and spitting on union members.

Hatred is a pointless and socially harmful emotion. Yet many on the hard left seem to think spreading it is a moral imperative. It's a fairly disgusting sight and will only serve to reinforce the Conservatives majority, mandate amd power so it's also very self defeating.

Which has also been done by the other side. The Tories don't need to stand outside of the TUC screaming "socialist scum". Plenty of newspapers do it for them. Socialists, lefties, ecological types, all damned loudly and regularly. Two sides of the same arse.

The problem is that it's handing all the power to the Conservatives. You don't gain power from hawking up greeners and lobbing them at Jeremy Hunt. You might get some smug pats on the back from bastards around you but you have lost all ethical superiority by engaging in such behaviour and centre-wibbly wobbly types types like me end up regarding the gobbers as being as cunty as the Hunt they tried to soak. This moronic demonstrative approach is as puerile and as self-serving as football hooliganism and should be stamped out.

Which is the sort of cheap stereotype that helps nobody. I don't own a house, my income last year was under 10k, I've never had tax credits or benefits, and my last job was up to 75 hours a week. Yet I felt that Hunt's call for the people of this country to work like the Chinese was one of the most patronising things I've heard in my lifetime and that Cameron saying Hunt's words was misunderstood to be symptomatic of the doublespeak within the Tory party.

@Fretwired I know who you meant :D. It's the actual term I dislike as much as I hate the phrase 'Tory toff'. I don't like the divisive elements of both phrases.

Its amazing how chip paper can stir political debate.

Todays young (the next generation of voters and political thinkers) cite newspapers as reading material for those too lazy to fact find, or indeed, for those who're unable to think for themselves. The future, according to them [the young] is social media.  Something Corbyn appears to have exploited..

These days I avoid newspapers, and prefer to watch two screaming idiots (representing the left and right) on TV having a political punchup....I give you - Punch and Judy.

    Just found this.

It's cool to rant and rave about the Daily Mail, and yes they're a bunch of dickheads, but the Guardian aren't that much better really are they?

People don't rant and rave about the Daily Mail because it's "cool".  They do it because the DM is a vile publication spewing forth hatred, intolerance, xenophobia and fear.  The Grauniad may be a bit bonkers on times but to answer your question, Yes, they are much better than the Daily Mail.  The Guardian has won countless international awards for the quality of its journalism and journalists, the Daily Mail probably won something from the British Union of Fascists once up a time and a Jim'll Fuck It badge.

That Twitter page reads like one of those sad sites where people under attack for holding minority views, like creationists or homophobes gather to make lame jokes about the opposition.  Lame, not because they're attacking the opposition but lame because from a comedy perspective, they're just embarrassingly shit.
Go on the Daily Mail site and find me a hate-filled story. Just one. The paper is right wing especially the online version as ,ore yanks read it than Brits.
The Daily Fail right wing? You having a laugh? It's got an overtly left wing Editor, and he’s taking The DM leftward every day. Right wing it’s certainly not, but at least it’s not as left as that student rag aka The Grauniad.

Judging by a good tranche of articles about finding snakes and dangerous spiders in one’s laundry or outhouse, I suggest the Daily Mail has got a far stronger readership among the Aussies than the Yanks.
