Im 35 and ive always wanted to get into a serious band and play live. Might sound strange but i always think i might have left it too late.

But i realised if i dont do it, i will always live my life regretting that i havent at least tried. So im currently getting my gear in order and am DEFINITLY going to do it!

Drummer in my last band was 65 - he had played for 10 years but never done a gig before ..................loved it
as he was retired he practised all day long and had the time to run around getting the gigs .........
the whole scene got him incredibly enthused ----------- think of it as musical viagra !

I'm 60 and did my first gig in 1974. Played hundreds during the 70's and early 80's and then gave up when work, family, etc got too much. I was coaxed out of retirement by an old band mate in 1996 and I've been at it ever since. Played with 5 or 6 bands since then and still gig once or twice a month. Current band does 80's Rock so Dio, Rainbow, Sabbath, AC/DC, etc - great fun! Get out there, you'll love it.

When I started playing 60 was old.  Then in the '60s the adverts ran "life begins at 40".  Nowadays it begins at 60, which for the really lucky people is when work stops getting in the way of life

I started at 62 and when I feel competent enough I will try and find some like minded people to have some fun with.  I don't feel remotely too old, just too crap.

Say that when you're in your 60s.......................I think you'll find you don't need the bit in brackets.

I dabbled with guitar in my teens (no patience), tried again in my 30's for a couple of years, then tried again (3rd time lucky!) in my 50's, finally got over the hump and have 20-30 songs I can play through completely to backing tracks. Not perfectly, but where's the fun in that?

Found a few other old geezers who can play a bit, and we have a band. Practise weekly, brilliant fun, there's nothing like playing with other people.

Not gig worthy yet but you never know, that's not really the objective for me, it's just to have fun and learn as much as I can while doing it.

Go for it, I'm 54 next month, still learning, still improving and loving it.

Put an ad on Join my band, we found there are a surprising amount of people in our age/experience bracket who browse on there but don't put an ad on, whenever we have to replace a band member (drummers and bass players for some reason?) we always get a handful of replies.
