The stuff I can get something approaching music out of:
Guitars*- electric, acoustic & cigar box
    Bass guitar*
    Uke*
    Mandolin*
    Guitalele*
    Xylophone*
    Keyboards
    Various percussion*
    Kazoos*
    (The obligatory) tin whistle
Harmonica* (playing these well makes the tin whistle look easy!)

Oh and a bloody Recorder- well, they're instruments but not exactly "musical".

    * denotes something I've played in public.

Depends how they're played - and bigger ones sound nicer than the ubiquitous school descant IMO.

Anyway, I've got a few things in the house (no brass though, never been able to play those...)

Clarinets (Wood and metal, both Bb)
    Saxophones (Alto and Baritone)
Recorders (all sizes Garklein to Bass)
    Ocarina
    Flute
Fife (does that count as different from a flute?)
    Violin
    Guitars
    Bass (guitar)
    Banjolin
    Ukulele
    Keyboard, MIDI stuff, drum machine
    Zither
    Couple of percussiony things
    Nose flute
Otamatone (as it came up in another thread recently!)
Jaw harp (although I've got no idea where it is)

Of those, the only one I've had proper tuition on and can play "properly" is clarinet (and recorder I suppose if you count primary school music lessons).  The rest I just blag with various degrees of success.  I've gigged on clarinet, sax, guitar and bass.

A proper recorder played well is a beautiful instrument.

Judging them based on the horror of a school recorder ensemble is like judging guitars based on a Saturday morning in a large music shop.

  • Piers Adams (Red Priest) is an expert recorder player.

Descant recorders sound fine in the hands of people who know how to use them - forget junior school!

@Nomad thanks, wow, and YLSNED :)

Aye, programming a preset by pulling the back off, getting the screwdriver out, and looking up a chart for the wires-to-terminals drawbar mappings is proper hairy-chested synth stuff.

Are you aware you have to oil the tonewheel mechanism? Use proper Hammond oil, and I'm told once a year or so.

Yes. Never with 3-in-1! AFAIK oiling frequency depends on the amount of use, but even with minimal usage you still need a drop or two every year.

    Between my girlfriend and I;

    Electric guitars
    Amps
    Acoustic guitars
    Ukulele
    Keyboards
    Tenor sax
    Clarinet
    Bassoon
    Viola
    Violin

Quite cool having lots of choices, but we live in a little cottage, so there are instruments stashed away everywhere.

Good to see at least one other person has a flamenco guitar.

    In addition to the 4 types of guitar I own - acoustic 6 (x2), acoustic 12, electric (x3), flamenco (x2) I have...

    A Roland TR-707 drum machine
    and a harmonium.

Both of which I have absolutely no idea how to use.
