He was one of those icons of childhood for me, crackerjack was on in our house every week. I look back now and it was probably terrible tv, but it was great at the time! RIP Ed.

I have to admit Ed Stewpot Stewart hadn't so much as crossed my mind in 30 years, but I'm sad to hear he's died.

I seem to have upset a few of you so apologies.  I grew up with Crackerjack and Eamon Andrews and Peter Glaze and Lesley Crowther and I remember ES on R1 Saturday morning show replacing Uncle Mac.  Just never cared for his style.

@rlw is entitled to his opinion. Just 'cos someone's died doesn't somehow bestow them with saintliness. I can't stand any of those DJ's. And if Operation Yewtree was anything to go by I'm fairly justified in disliking them.

And no, I'm not accusing anyone of anything.
