I thought perhaps it was a security thing? My daughter wants to learn drums too. It hadn't occurred to me that one gender of teacher would be more inspiring for her. Do kids care about teacher gender? I assumed they just saw "teacher."

She's not too bothered but she had a female tutor previously for a few months and I think it's good for young girls to see and learn from older females who are excelling, especially as things like drums and guitar are so massively male dominated.

I think my daughter is drawn to it BECAUSE it is male dominated. She's a bit of a tom-boy.

If you want your daughter to be inspired by female drummers then why bother with lessons?  She's probably already as good as Meg White.

Ha! true. But I do love Meg White's drumming, one of my all time favourite drummers (I'm not joking btw).

I had a few lessons with Sarah Jones, who was great, but she's moved onward and upward considerably since giving me lessons. Might be worth a Goggling her to see if she is still teaching?
