  • Hmmm, might be good... Is it a re-hash?

Sorry, not correct: 10pm BBC4 'Music Moguls: Masters of Pop'

Well, could be quite interesting, hopefully not just the same old Peter Grant anecdotes

I think it is a new programme, but it may end up using a lot of old clips and pad it out

Good watch, famous managers from Col Parker to the modern day. Next week Producers presented by Nile Rodgers.

I watched it and really enjoyed it. Don't think it was a rehash I hadn't seen a lot of the interviews and clips before.

About next weeks episode it should be interesting.

It was entertaining - much more than I'd feared it might be. But it seemed pretty light on information, and heavy on anecdotes about Don Arden and Peter Grant.

But Loog Oldham and McLaren came across as very interesting. Maybe not good managers, but they had some interesting perspectives.

Anyway, thanks @richh for the heads up.

Nile Rodgers tonight talking about producers. Bit of the usual suspects but some good moments, find the bit with Visconti disecting Heroes.

Producers episode was very good. There were a couple people I didn't recognise, but they had all worked with famous bands/solo artists I had heard/heard of. Liked the quote about "you shouldn't be allowed to be a producer unless you have written & had your own hit."

Loog Oldhams book "Stoned" is a good read.

Might be worth saying it wasn't very 'rock' - Motown, hip hop, disco got a lot of it. Lot of luuuv for Marc Ronson. I wondered if Nile had to be persuaded to include the bit on Joe Meek to give a more British angle. I think it's PR people next week?

That quote just show the slant of the programme.

Martin Birch did write and have his own hit and I'll take him over anyone.

I got annoyed about the Silvia Robinson bit.
She was not a great producer. She was just a rip off merchant.

That second programme was poor. It seemed to divide producers into two sections - those who found ways to get the sound of a band playing a song onto record, and those who pushed butons and clicked mice.

The Producers one could've gone on for hours as are sooo many secrets that could've been revealed... Great to see Fairlight featuring in mix... My work is done...

Got the PR one on, waiting in for a delivery. Not sure how much I'm going to learn about PR from this bunch of anecdotes but, y'know, some interesting anecdotes.

I loved the producers one, especially watching Tony Visconti layering Heroes by Bowie.Seeing all those strange noises transformed into such a iconic track was brilliant.
