RIP Stan Tracey

saw him play at Ronnie Scott's in the late 70s.

  • Under Milk Wood is a great album.  Also had it on vinyl (not with that cover).  Arguably the first British jazz album that could hold its own internationally'

Saw Stan a few times.  Unfortunately latterly I think just a bit of the rhythmic sharpness had gone, although he was still a very fine player by most standards.

There was a very fine (BBC?) documentary about his life which I imagine will get a showing again sometime soon.  Well worth looking out for.
