Founder of Earth, Wind and Fire from the Parkinson's disease he had for quite a long time. Aged 74. Not hard to think of some very hummable tunes by the band, renown for high standards of musicianship and spectacular live shows. RIP.

  • I heard on the radio today that he played drums on Rescue Me by Fontella Bass, which a cool thing to have on your CV!

Never understood why that fella out of Green Day had such a downer on EWF....

  • Here he is not long before he started having health problems, ill for over twenty years. Sad.

  • I think history in some ways has been unkind to the likes of EWF, because the outfits - which look questionable when viewed with today's eyes - have overshadowed the musicianship somewhat.

Put it another way: Boogie Wonderland is way closer to what I would consider "Dance Music" than an awful lot of music that is passed off as Dance Music.

EWF, the Commodores, all sorts of seventies soul-funk-disco bands who were dressing to impress but also knew how to write a song, arrange a song and play that song. I posted a Bee Gees clip the other day, decades of bias told my brain it was crap but when I heard it on the radio minus a DJ introduction I realised it was actually really good - and there is amazing guitar playing all over these records as well.

  • I love the Bee Gees and EWF. Great musicians and songwriters.

I've never cared what's in fashion or cool to like.

    RIP Maurice.

Mrs B has been dancing round the kitchen to EWF's greatest hits this morning. Great funk band. RIP Maurice.

  • Love EWF.  I can't believe that 1/32nd of the band is now gone.

The guitar player went a few years ago too IIRC.

    Love EWAF, sad day :(

I'm gonna be a mess when Stevie Wonder passes.
I would love to change my username, but I fully understand the T&C's (it was an old band nickname). So please feel free to call me Dave.

He's only 65, he'll be around a long time yet I reckon. Tbh I thought he was older till I checked. He's just been in the public eye for a very long time.
