Evenin',

Anyone know of a place I can get my vintage CTS speaker reconed? I'm in Nottingham so somewhere local would be a bonus as it would save on shipping costs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Alex :)

    I use these two:

    www.recones.com

    http://wembleyloudspeaker.com/

Of course, both will require shipping. Not sure of anyone local to you I'm afraid.

I can second recones.com although he's based Yorkshire way.

Go to Parcel Monkey (or similar), get a courier price, pay online and drop it off at a local shop, easy!

Shouldn't cost more than a tenner

With so many comparison web sites out there, how do I choose the best one?

  • I've also used http://wembleyloudspeaker.com/  and found them to be excellent. They saved both the drivers from some ancient B&W hi fi speakers I have - reattached the voice coils to the original cones. Top blokes.

  • Thanks for all the advice. I'll get in contact with both places and decide from there. Looking forward to seeing what this old CTS speaker actually sounds like! (Came with my drip edge 69 Princeton reverb and I swapped it out right away due to it having a ripped cone. Put the speaker in a box under the bed and forgot all about it til this past week!). Will report back with an update for anyone who might be interested.
Thanks again, really appreciate the help.

    @riftamps

Hi again! Finally getting round to getting this done after a hectic few months! It appears that I can choose exactly which brand of cone to go for. Any advice on this front for the most authentically vintage sounding 60's fender speaker?
    Thanks in advance!

Is repairing the tear not an option?

Any replacement cone is not going to sound the same as an original.

Hmmm, I'm not sure to be honest! I assumed that the cone would need replacing entirely! The dust cap is dented/pushed in a bit too... I guess I'll let the fella's at recones.com decide on the best course of action as I really have no idea about this stuff! Here's a pic if anyone happens to know anything about what type of speaker this is etc as I know nothing about it and just assume it's the original 1969 speaker...

That speaker doesnt look too bad to me. Id be tempted to leave it alone unless it sounds horrible or something. Is it coil rubbing?

The dented dust cap is a non issue. You could try bringing it back out again with some masking tape, but I wouldnt worry too much about it.
