is there a reason why I can't. ..

Plug my head into a combo's speaker?

Speaker cables in combos are pretty short normally. Does anyone make longer ones. Spade to jack?

  • Yes, award session do, their website should point you in the right direction.

Other than that, I imagine there are some people on here who would knock something up.

I've done it at a push when the amp has issues
Two rock nicely give you enough lead that you can sit a head on top for example
You could get a locking extension cable. There is always a fair debate on risk of that . Personally I wouldn't have a problem as long as it was decent quality

Easy enough to make your own. Just crimp a couple of spade connectors onto the ends of the wires. Obviously it would be best to solder them on but not vital.

  • Well I was thinking it's the ideal gig backup. If head fails combo is there ready to be hooked up...

I do it the opposite way round
If the amp in the combo fails I have a Blu amp 1 to plug in and get me through the night
    And it's saved my bacon

I've made many speaker extension cables, I use them in my workshop all the time to connect stuff up, invaluable.

    All you need is:

    1 x Female 3/4" Jack Mono (£2ish)
    1 x Male 3/4" Jack Mono (£2ish)
2m x Speaker cable (I use 2 core 6A mains cable) £1.90 per meter - longer if you wish.

All this stuff is available in Maplins, solder it up and go!

*I no longer offer replacement speaker baffles*

I use extension cables too, however I use the Neutrik locking female jack connectors.

You really don't the speaker to become disconnected during use on a valve amp.

+1 with knobs on! A reliable quick and dirty solution is two (plastic) jacks soldered pin for pin. Bit of Gaffer, job's a good'un.

Used to make up lots of those in 2, 3 and more ways for experimentals.

    Dave.

  • Rob at kabl made me this exact thing. I have a spare amp head that I take to gigs and if my main amp ever fails I use the speaker extension lead he made me (with neutrik locking female jack) to connect the speakers of my 2x12 combo to the head. Works a treat and the kabl stuff is great quality
