Did try a Rivera Clubster, which was nice but the Fender showed it up quite badly

damn haha. that imperial maybe be a good buy seeing as its not much more than a new deluxe. that said, i dont even want to be spending the amount the deluxe costs new, let alone a 2nd hand imperial!
