I want to commit an act of madness

well, I'm thinking about it.

I have a very nice guitar body that I got sprayed a few years ago. It's black on the back and sides, and dark trans green on the front. The problem that I have is that I have decided that the front is too dark! I'm considering stripping the whole body and getting a new finish, but I was wondering if there was any joy to be had in trying to just sand off the front finish and redo that, leaving the sides and back intact.

Any thoughts?

  • I've done it on a veneering job in the past, but it's probably easier to hide any blend lines doing that than spraying:  image

It's an Epiphone Junior, by the way.  Made of plywood but SOUNDED FANTASTIC!  Stock everything except the top.

    Nice job! looks really cool.

Not many opinions on this thread, so I'll just have to give it some thought. It's not top project priority by a long shot so I'll leave it on the backburner for now.

  • I don't see why not, with proper masking and a compatible finish.

If it did go horribly wrong, you could refin the lot. Obviously not ideal, but it wouldn't be the end of the world either.
