Should Boss GT100 sound best through FX Return?

Just snagged a cheap one on Gumtree and it sounds great into front of Tech 21 TM60 (set to a Voxy clean). Tried it briefly into amp's FX Return and the same patches sounded a bit "flatter" or darker. Shouldn't patches with amp sims sound generally better into the Return or is it just that I like janglier tone? Either way I'm really impressed. Most of the presets - it's version 1 - are rather useable.

Normally you would expect an amp modeller to sound best through the FX return however the amp modelling is the weak point of the otherwise excellent GT100 so I'd suggest setting the global setting to switch off amp modelling and run it into the front of the TM60.

It does sound more natural, for want of a better word, when System is set to "JC120 Return". Thank God it's Easter weekend and I've got some time to mess around with it...

Does it matter what you are 'supposed' to do? Just hook it up the way sounds best to you.
