I wasn't aware of this.  It may seem obvious, but I've not been looking at pictures, I've been reading spec which on the website is 16 ohm/2x8 ohm

    Output Power

100 watts into 16 ohm or 2x 8 ohm speaker outputs

2x8 ohm usually means two 16 ohm cabs to me, some Orange amps have 1x 16 ohm and 2 x 8ohm.  There's no mention of a 4ohm option, so I think they need to update the spec on their site

I've never heard of it till now... ;)
Naming an amp after someone who famously disappeared without trace doesn't sound like a great idea, to be honest!

"Take these three items, some WD-40, a vise grip, and a roll of duct tape. Any man worth his salt can fix almost any problem with this stuff alone." - Walt Kowalski

"Only two things are infinite - the universe, and human stupidity. And I'm not sure about the universe." - Albert Einstein

Yeah, they're pretty crappy in terms of info on the site - a lot of it's copy-pasted.

    On the 50W, you've got 1 x 16 ohm, 1 x 8 ohm, 1 x 4 ohm, 2 x 16ohm (in the 8 ohm inputs) and 2 x 8 ohm (in the 4 ohm inputs).

I thought Cornford had lots of hate on this page. How come that connection is a good thing?

Presumably because the MK50 mk II was a properly special amp, regardless of the name it was sold under.

@digitalscream I realise there will be a price difference and you have history with Jet City but it'll have to some to beat The Kraken. They are pretty special I think.

  • Thanks for clarifying the outputs.

If the price is less than the 100HDM you are going to be able to buy two for less than one Kraken.

Not for me, it wouldn't. It has a clean channel, for a start :P

@ennspek is right - as I said, this'll never be a gigging amp for me (unless I radically change my genre or approach to playing), but I'll definitely be getting one for recording purposes.

    Almost certainly the shelved earheart!

Jet city could be about to play the end game!
If it is, and they don't basically win the entire sub-£800 amp market, I'll be bitterly disappointed in humanity. The Earhart is practically legendary.

The MK50ii has a clean channel albeit a poor one ;)

Exactly. I don't want a clean channel. Such a thing would just be a waste of valves for my live purposes ;)

  • Ha.  Tried a Mk11, as I loved the original but couldn't live with one channel (I could now), but didnt jump on it cos I though the clean was god awful.

Can someone enlighten those of us who haven't heard of it the relevance of the 'Earhart' thing and why it's a big deal?
