Glenn: Okay Joe it's back on so long as you don't play that feckin annoying pseudo Eric Johnson run in every solo, alright aer kid?

Joe: M'kay, Glenn. So long as you stop pronouncing and singing the word and as 'eynd'. Everytime I hear that I'm like 'dude, which part of Cannock do they say 'eynd' in?

  • The same part of Cannock that is in the fecking Black Country.....!

Always thought that was a weird name for a band, of whom half weren't even from the same country the Black Country is in, and of the remaining two only one of them was from the Black Country.

Glenn Hughes has a weird transatlantic accent, hence the 'eynd'.

I wonder if Kevin Shirley will insist on two drummers for this album?

I'd go see them. Not that keen on the recorded stuff but it's musicians I quite like. Although once ticket prices are announced that would probably be the end of that plan!

I thought they'd all fallen out.. I might go and see them. The bloke that plastered my lounge used to be in a band with Glenn (pre Trapeze). Fantastic gig stories while he was mixing up his compo.

As long as whatever they do doesn't sound like their first album then it'll be alright. What a cheese-fest that first album was.

I mean the second one was kinda too, but, Afterglow was a well-done album. It had maturity and actual songwriting instead of cliches.

Hughes is a big Wolves fan so maybe he sees himself as Black Country on that basis and Led Zep did Black Country Woman so the phrase has some resonance amongst rock fans even if they don't know what it means, although maybe they could have called the band South Staffs Symphony.

Both BC clubs were in Staffordshire when they were formed iirc.

I love Wolverhampton - had some top nights out at Blast Off/Cheeky Monkey etc. (Oops gone a bit Central News again).

Om a gunna get that Oscar the news hound (pron. howund for those of you in the Blackeeuth/ Rowley area) and Bob Warman on the case, cause I doe think wolves nor Cannock's true Black Country either. Ay posh enough, am they?

John Cain not invited for obvious reasons ;)

Anyway, there's only one team in the Black Country.

    Cum on yow Baggie Boyzzzzzzzz....

I missed the boat on BCC - I bought their albums, listened to them, didn't think they where bad, just thought they where nondescript blues/prog rock, Joe mad a big deal about changing his sound and style for BCC, and it pretty much sounded exactly the same, both tone and style wise, Glens voice is just over the top shrill on every track, I just didn't get the buzz on it, maybe this time around I'll enjoy it more.

The address is West Bromwich. The border was moved at some point apparently , it had been one half in Birmingham and one half in Smethwick( hence the names of the ends) but is now all in West Bromwich. Also the highest major ground above sea level in the UK.

Whilst I'm here... Whilst Wolverhampton probably isn't in the Black Country historically (definitions vary but essentially if you follow the Black Country coal seam) it does get lumped in with it now. For example, I work with the Black Country courts which cover Wolverhampton, Walsall, Warley and Dudley. Essentially Black Country is used now a lot to generically describe the parts of the West Midlands that aren't Birmingham or on the Coventry-Solihull side. Although, still not Cannock.
