My remaining overdrives don't stack!!!

So I've decided to keep these four overdrives. Just don't want to part with them :( but they don't stack very well. Or at all to be honest.

The ODR-1 will stack into the BB but that's about it.

Any advice?

  • I quite liked tubescreamer into odr-1. Does the zen drive not stack into it well?

Don't worry about it. Stacking ODs is overrated

Advice? Well, if you like them, just set them each to their strongest setting and don't stack them.

To be honest I don't like the Zen stacked into anything. I only like it into a clean amp. Not even with a clean boost behind or in front

The Red Dirt (TS) into the ODR-1 is useable but I always feel I completely lose what I like about either pedal.

ODR into Red Dirt isn't nice

TS and BB in any combination gets really nasally unless I turn the bass and treble up a lot on the BB but then I lose the sound I like of the BB by itself :/

Aren't all 4 of them Tubescreamer based?

Yeah you're right. Need to stop watching random session players rig videos and their 43 different shades of overdrive.

    I've never liked stacked overdrives

Overdrive into distortion is a different matter!

It's ok as a boost into some pedals... Just as long as your guitar and other overdrive pedal get along nicely with the push in bass frequencies

I know some tech will say yes but I don't think so.

The Nobels doesn't have the midhump.

The BB can dial out the midhump

And the Zen is very clear in the mids

However I think their similarities as being smoother overdrives is why I don't like them stacked. Too much smooth!

Circuit wise, they're all pretty different

A TS, RAT and Klon usually cover most bases and stack well

Don't start my GAS... But I was thinking about ditching the BB, Red Dirt and Nobels for a KOT and Beano Boost. The Zen stays though

I really like the BB because it can boost my Cordford and literally sound indistinguishable

To be realistic, four overdrives is enough for anyone (says me currently with nine that I can currently recall).

    Seriously?
It works with anything in the world ever made.

Stick it at the end of your drive section and it will boost/fatten/whatever you want it to do
The Bigsby was the first successful design of what is now called a whammy bar or tremolo arm, although vibrato is the technically correct term for the musical effect it produces. In standard usage, tremolo is a rapid fluctuation of the volume of a note, while vibrato is a fluctuation in pitch. The origin of this nonstandard usage of the term by electric guitarists is attributed to Leo Fender, who also used the term “vibrato” to refer to what is really a tremolo effect.

I find it works better at the beginning of a chain.

At the end I find it imparts to much character.

Plus it reaaaally doesn't like the neck pickups in my Tele (twang king) and Les Paul (custom bucker)

    Update...

BB Preamp into Nobels ODR-1 works great.

Set the ODR-1 low for a boost. I usually go low gain into high gain but this really does work well

It's probably because the Nobels seems to have a slightly slanted front, they'll probably balance better when stacked if that one is on the top of the other three

Plus the BB has Velcro on the bottom which causes it to slide off smooth surfaces

I would have said keep the Nobels last as it's the most flat response. That way it's like putting a Tubescreamer type into an already dirty amp which works fine.
