*TRADED OFF FORUM* - FS/FT: Fender Mexican Standard Strat Plus Top, 2013, *£300*

This is in very good condition, a lovely neck which as far as I'm aware is slightly different to a regular standard in that it has a satin back but a gloss fingerboard. It's got nicely polished frets. Points to note:

  • It's got very faint surface scratches all over the body, someone has dulled down the finish slightly and I'm pretty sure these would buff out
  • The flame wouldn't photograph very well, it's a decent veneer with well-defined flaming and nice 3D effect.
  • The scratchplate is a replacement, a nice thick bevelled 1-ply cream one. It makes the pickups and knobs look very slightly mint green, which they could well be as they appear to be ceramic replacements.
  • It's been rewired with cloth hook up wire.
  • It has what I've been told is a 5-way CRL switch, it's definitely got a very nice "clunky" action if that's the correct word.
  • It's missing the trem arm and back cover
  • There's no case
The reason I'm selling is that I have a Mexican Standard Strat which serves my single coil needs very well. If that guitar was desirable then I'd be thinking about putting that up for sale/trade instead. It's a Fret King JD Tele, very nice however it's a factory sample or something as it is stamped with a "B" so very difficult to sell on. (I traded that JD Tele for a sunburst Standard Strat)

Anyhow, I'm looking either for straight sale on this, or a trade with something I don't have :-) . I'm thinking set neck, humbuckers / P90s, possibly semi-hollow but not absolutely necessary. I wouldn't mind trying an SG type, 335 type, casino, starcaster etc. Although I'd also consider a thinline tele type with humbuckers, or even a regular Tele. I have no cash to add but wouldn't mind taking a cheaper guitar with cash my way.

Thanks for looking, pics to follow.

Not totally against it, but without a case insurance is useless as I understand it. All I have for protection is a shaped guitar box, i.e. of the type usually put inside a bigger box for shipping.

Hmm, I have a strat hard case, don't know if the sg will fit in though, I'll try tonight.

The sg doesn't fit in the strat case so that's a no go.
I don't need another strat, but like a magpie I was dazzled by the pretty, it's probably better if I leave well alone!

    Cheers and glwts

No worries. I'm wondering if I should keep it and save for some humbuckers...

Bump. The pickups don't look anything like the staggered ceramic jobbies on standard strats, and which also come stock on this model. I've ordered some strings and will pop the scratchplate off when I can to see what we have. They could still be ceramic I guess, time will tell!

Also I have some spare springs so will put an extra 2 on when I change strings.

    Bump!

They are ceramic after all, but with a single bar under each pickup instead of the usual 2 under my other standard strat's pickups.

Bump. Price drop to £320 PPG collected. Edit - on having a play the other day, I also discovered that the top tone control affects the bridge pickup as well as the neck.
