Denmark Street Amp Dealers Recommendations

Hi

I've got a couple of hours free in the West End on Saturday, and would like to use the time looking for a nice combo and demo'ing a few - after something medium/high end - £1400ish new bracket, but happy to pay less and used!

Any recommendations for shops to look in, honestly I'm so disheartened by the Denmark Street experience - a couple of bad shops and I'll end up drinking in Soho instead!

Was expecting that - yes I think I'll end up there, but wanted to tick some low hanging fruit first.

I thought Coda was Stevenage only these days?

Yes, you're right. I meant Stevenage. I'm not aware of much in central London - anything more exotic than Fender & Blackstar will require a trip elsewhere.

There isn't much worth sniffing at up Denmark Street to be honest.

I echo the above.  There's not much there beyond the usual selection of Fender and Marshall stuff and maybe Orange.  Wunjo is always worth a peek and they are, at least, friendly.  

I would a) get pissed in Soho, while enjoying some freak- people-watching, b) head up to Stevenage, which might as well be Glasgow for me (down in Sussex) or c) hop on a train to Epsom (35-ish minutes from Waterloo or Victoria if you choose your train wisely) and have a gander at Guitar Guitar..

The only thing I'd do on Denmark St is be very very careful....very very little is what it purports to be.

Theres a place which stocks mostly mesa boogies, a place which does a bunch of marshall and oranges, and wunjos which has whatever they got in at the time.

It was only one crook who also operated in Doncaster and Manchester, wasn't it?  Long gone now.

Thanks guys - good advice, I remember Angel Music from when they were next to Angel tube - will be interesting to go there again and will try Wunjos.

Interesting comments - I assume that alludes to the 'vintage' guitars?

Lol, didn't see you'd posted already...

Anyway, if you're there and want high end amp, jpf has given enough information for free to this forum (as well as a couple of great videos) for me to say he is probably worth a shout.

Why not go to Chandlers in Kew, they have nice kit and a decent amp room where you could play a fair bit louder than on Denmark str. You could also see the gardens if you haven't previously.
