MK1 5150 Combo ... What can you tell me?

I have an odd obsession with these ... they're supposed to be very heavy, but aside from that I can't get a consistent sense of how they sound or how they are to use.

Can anyone shed light on them for me?

They are super heavy, they sound great but seem to struggle with reliability issues.

  • They weigh a ton (again) but the amp section sounds great.

I think the speakers sound awful so I'd swap them out for V30's or Greenbacks according to taste.

You need something higher rates than a greenback, CL80s are killer with the 5150

Loved mine. Very heavy. Usually played the crunch option on the green channel and used an overdrive for solos. Found the lead channel just had too much gain.

Also had an original Wolfgang special at the time and it did give that sound......
