It's shown the right attitude. 

What Turing did for this country was immeasurable and he deserves every honour but it was a different time with different attitudes and It does seem a current attitude to be apologising for everything that went before.

His place in history is assured.

I don't see it as apologising @Neil and no guilt from me, lets be honest we cannot be held responsible for it. For me it is more acknowledging that society in general got it wrong then, now we know better.

No need to be an apologist to register the fact it was cruel and ill thought out.
